Angel DustWhen you think of drug possession, you likely think of drugs such as cocaine or heroin. In reality, there are many, many other drugs that are categorized as unlawful controlled dangerous substances (CDS) under New Jersey law. These drugs can include methamphetamines, ecstasy (Molly), and a wide variety of prescription drugs if you do not have a valid prescription. The penalties for possessing these other types of CDS can be just as serious as if you possessed a drug like cocaine.

Recently, law enforcement authorities placed a man under arrest for possessing a significant amount of PCP, a dissociative drug commonly referred to as Angel Dust. The drug is often smoked by dipping a tobacco or marijuana cigarette into liquid-form PCP. Officers reported that they witnessed a deal occur that exchanged cash for a “wet cigarette,” which means that it is laced with Angel Dust. They then went inside the apartment building of the man who procured the wet cigarette and allegedly discovered a large amount of PCP in the hallway. They estimated the Angel Dust found would be worth about $5,000 when sold on the street. Police placed the man under arrest and he is now facing charges of possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute.

Possession of CDS in New Jersey

Possessing narcotics can have serious consequences in New Jersey and those potential consequences only increase if you are charged with the intent to distribute. A prosecutor can argue that you intended to sell the drugs for many reasons, including:

  • The drugs were packaged in a manner to be sold to different individuals;
  • You had packaging materials;
  • You had tools commonly used for measuring out individual portions of drugs;
  • You possessed more of a drug than would typically be possessed for personal use.
